Our four-year project EUCLID presented its concluding results in the Final Conference and Workshop at the University of Avignon in France last September. It was a unique occasion to share outputs and research findings with the scientific community as well as with representatives of farmers’ and consumers’ associations.

The involvement of the key stakeholders of the agri-food system has been a landmark of EUCLID project throughout its implementation, and the importance of involving them in all phases of the research process is something that emerged also in the conference discussion. This is particularly true for farmers who can have an active role in the research itself and can certainly be a good way to increase their knowledge and hence their attitude towards IPM.

It also emerged the need to include registration procedures of IPM products in the research process since its early stages, as an important measure to facilitate the uptake in the market of the developed innovations. This would offer benefits to the scientific world and to the business one, opening new opportunities for retailers and consumers.

Although at the end of the agri-food system, consumers are in fact big players in kicking off the whole process: to this end, information and communication campaigns are strategic in order to raise their awareness on IPM especially as the large part of consumers answering to EUCLID surveys showed their willingness to pay more for IPM products.

Policy is another key factor for IPM implementation and in order to overcome the difficulties of a common IPM legislation, EUCLID recommendation would certainly be to act locally in order to have an impact globally.
